New Simplified Procedure for Issuing National Driver's Licenses Without Surrendering Foreign Ones

On March 6, the government adopted a decision on amendments and additions to the decision N 385-N of March 26, 2020, of the Government of the Republic of Armenia. This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia.

The decision states that citizens of the Republic of Armenia holding dual citizenship will be granted a national driver's license based on driver's licenses obtained from other countries that comply with the requirements of the 1968 Convention on Road Traffic, without the need to pass qualification exams (theoretical and practical). Moreover, the new license will be issued without confiscating the other license.

In this procedure:

1. The citizen must present a copy of the driver's licenses obtained from other countries, documents specified in items 1 and 4 of the list, including an identification document, and a payment receipt for the state fee.
2. A verification will be conducted to ensure that the citizen is not listed among those deprived of the right to drive due to drug or psychiatric medical institutions and that there are no other medical grounds as outlined in point 8 of this procedure, as well as the validity of the driver's license obtained from another country.

After completing these procedures, the citizen will be photographed using computer technology, and a national driver's license will be issued within one working day.

These reforms aim to strengthen public safety and develop a culture of security by ensuring a more simplified and efficient process for issuing driver's licenses.
