What to Expect for Armenia's Economy and Armenian Entrepreneurs: Marukyan
Edmon Marukyan, the leader of the Bright Armenia party, stated: "Neighboring Georgia is increasing its export volume to Russia. According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia, from January 1 to March 3, 2025, potato exports from Georgia have increased almost 30 times, with Russia being the main buyer (14,000 tons). During this period, the country has sold a total of 27,500 tons of potatoes for $8 million. In addition to Russia, the main importers of Georgian potatoes are also Azerbaijan (10,500 tons) and Armenia (2,200 tons). Furthermore, apple exports have risen sixfold, and 99% of those apples were sold to Russia. From August 1, 2024, to March 3, 2025, Georgia has sold 12,900 tons of apples for $8.2 million," Marukyan writes.
He points out that no reasonable Georgian expert or politician argues that "these products should not be exported to Russia, as this would lead Georgia into dependency. That is not only unproductive but also illogical. Meanwhile, in our country, discussions are ongoing daily about how to reduce dependency on Russia.”
“What to do and where to export Armenian products so that as little as possible, ideally nothing, goes to Russia? Those who speak about this do not take into account the possible consequences and the issues that Armenia's economy and Armenian entrepreneurs will face. A heavy economic year is expected, while our authorities and the 'expert community' are attempting to dismantle even what already exists," he wrote.
