Baku Responds to Pashinyan's Proposal

If Armenia truly desires for the communication routes in the region to be opened, it should not evade its obligations and should take practical steps in that direction. This was stated by the official representative of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aykhan Hajizadeh, commenting on the article published today by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

“Although Armenia is aware of its written commitments regarding the opening of connections with Azerbaijan's western territories, specifically the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, it has not yet fulfilled these obligations,” he said.

According to Hajizadeh, the proposals put forth by Yerevan are, in essence, unnecessary, difficult to implement, and practically prolong the route. He argued that Armenia aims to distract attention from its assumed commitments.

“It is well known that for nearly 30 years, Armenia kept Azerbaijani sovereign territories under occupation, which led to the blockade of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Furthermore, Armenia has not made any positive contributions to the negotiations aimed at the resumption of communication routes following the 44-day war,” emphasized the spokesman of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
