Threat to Armenia: Azerbaijan Seeks to Close ICRC Office, Abrahamyan
Azerbaijan has discussed the possibility of closing the office of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). This was reported on Facebook by Tigran Abrahamyan, a member of the opposition ‘I Have Honor’ faction in the National Assembly.
The danger for Armenia is that the issue of closing the office has been raised in Baku against the backdrop of 'trials' of Armenian prisoners, noted the member of the National Assembly’s Defense and Security Committee. He considers this a very pressing issue, given that communication with Armenians held in Baku prisons is maintained through the ICRC.
According to Abrahamyan, as has been the case with various public and international organizations or independent media whose operations have been halted in the past, Azerbaijan first conducts a propaganda campaign, then begins information attacks, and subsequently makes accusations of espionage or other offenses.
It is worth reminding that several dozen NGOs have issued an open letter to the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, demanding an immediate visit to Ruben Vardanyan, the former Prime Minister of Artsakh, who is being held in a prison in Baku.
