It Is Truly Shameful: Tigran Avinyan

Violence against doctors is one of the most bizarre phenomena present in our society. This was stated by Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan during a working consultation at the City Hall, addressing the recent incident of an assault on medical personnel while performing their duties.

“These are regrettable incidents; violence against doctors is one of the most peculiar phenomena in our society, which, to be honest, does not speak well of us or our community. I believe we need to speak up about this and discuss it more frequently. Every case of such nature should receive appropriate attention from both society and law enforcement, because doctors are performing their duties. Their primary goal is to save lives and maintain people’s health. It is clear to their families how much they are loved, but that in no way justifies such expressions towards doctors. This is a disgusting and one of the strangest phenomena present in our society; every recorded incident of this nature should be raised vocally, because it is truly shameful,” he said.

It is worth reminding that earlier we reported that a man had struck a healthcare worker in the face with an ashtray. Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan also commented on the incident.
