Trump Extends Sanctions Against Russia

U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to extend the state of emergency, which includes a series of sanctions against Russia, for one more year, according to a document submitted to the U.S. Federal Register by the White House.

"I am extending the declaration of national emergency set forth in Executive Order 13660 for one year," Trump wrote.

This regime entails the extension of a series of anti-Russian sanctions established by U.S. presidential executive orders in 2014, 2018, and 2022. The state of emergency related to the events in Ukraine was first imposed in the U.S. back in 2014.

Initially, it was introduced under Executive Order 13660 by President Barack Obama, published on March 6, 2014, which proposed to freeze the assets of a number of individuals involved in the situation in Ukraine. It originally targeted those who contributed to the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation. In the subsequent years, particularly during Trump’s first presidency and Joe Biden’s administration, the list of such sanctions has been expanded multiple times.
