Nearly 100 Palestinian Prisoners Arrive in Egypt

Nearly 100 Palestinian prisoners have arrived in Egypt as part of a deal between the Palestinian Hamas movement and Israel, Reuters reports citing sources from the movement.

"Ninety-seven Palestinian prisoners have been handed over to Egypt," the source told the agency.

According to the agency, Egypt will be the first stop for the prisoners until "other countries are ready to accept them." A ceasefire has been in place in the Gaza Strip since January 19, as part of an agreement reached between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement to release Israeli captives in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.

The guarantors of the agreement are Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, which have established a coordinating center in Cairo.
