When the New Constitution Text Will Be Ready Is Known
The Republic of Armenia is working on a new text of the Constitution, which is expected to be ready by the parliamentary elections scheduled for 2026. This was announced by the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, Surbhi Galoyan, during the 4th session of the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Partnership Committee held in the Armenian Parliament.
She discussed the steps taken in the context of strengthening democracy and the rule of law, among which the constitutional reforms are the foremost. “They can be said to be in the current phase. A corresponding council is operational, formed to address the concept of the Constitution. We are now working on a new text of the Constitution, which, according to the commitments undertaken, should be ready by the elections in 2026,” Galoyan stated.
She also added that the Constitution will emphasize human rights, including socio-economic rights, and will contain several provisions related to the system of governance and the roles and responsibilities of various state bodies.
