I Don’t Know This Person and Know Nothing About Him: Zelensky
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that he "knows nothing" about the American journalist Gonzalo Lira, who died in a Ukrainian prison. This was reported by РИА Новости.
"I do not know this person and have never known him. I don’t know if he is part of the intelligence or has connections with Russia," he said during a press conference.
In May 2023, a journalist was arrested by the Ukrainian armed forces in the Kharkiv region on suspicion of "justifying Russian aggression" and "spreading pro-Russian narratives on social networks." He was later released on bail, but was re-arrested in July while attempting to leave the country.
By the end of the same year, it became known that the journalist had died in a Ukrainian prison. Earlier, the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and American entrepreneur Elon Musk stated that Zelensky should not have killed the American journalist and blogger Gonzalo Lira. Prior to this, Musk had claimed that Zelensky was personally responsible for Lira's death.
