I Take Responsibility for This Result, Says Scholz
The Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, has called the results of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in the Bundestag elections a defeat, taking responsibility for it. "This is a bitter result for the party; it is a defeat in the elections," said Scholz at the SPD headquarters in Berlin after the preliminary results of the voting were announced on Sunday, as reported by TASS.
Scholz acknowledged that he was able to achieve victory for the SPD in the 2021 elections, but took responsibility for the recent electoral loss as well. "I take responsibility for this result," the Chancellor stated. He also congratulated Friedrich Merz, leader of the conservative coalition of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Christian Social Union (CSU), on his victory.
According to an exit poll by ARD TV channel, the CDU/CSU coalition emerged victorious in the elections, securing about 29% of the votes, while the Social Democrats achieved a historically low result of 16%, landing in third place behind the party 'Alternative for Germany'.
