Germany Makes Unexpected Announcement Regarding Russia-US Negotiations
US President Donald Trump's efforts to rapidly engage in negotiations and cease the conflict in Ukraine should be viewed as serious intentions, said Sahra Wagenknecht, leader of the Alliance for Reason and Justice (SWJ), during a debate on ZDF television.
"These are negotiations without preconditions, they are still ongoing, and I am very hopeful that they will lead to a ceasefire and, ultimately, a peace agreement," Wagenknecht stated.
Additionally, the politician criticized Europe’s approach to the conflict in Ukraine. "The major mistake of European policy is that we have always relied solely on weapons; had we tried to take independent steps toward peace, we would be sitting at the negotiating table by now,” concluded the head of the SWJ party.
It is noteworthy that early elections in Germany are set to take place on February 23. According to a poll by the INSA institute, the Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) coalition continues to lead three days ahead of the parliamentary elections in Germany with a 30 percent rating. The Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) garners 15 percent support, while the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) has 21 percent. Thirteen percent are willing to vote for the Greens, and seven percent for the Left party. The SSB is also receiving increasing support, reaching seven percent.
