Why is Pashinyan Proposing to Amend the Constitution, According to a Turkologist

Aliyev has made anti-Armenian statements throughout Artsakh today, while concurrently the Prime Minister of Armenia unexpectedly announces plans to change the Constitution, a demand made almost daily by Azerbaijan and Turkey. This was articulated by Turkologist Varujan Geghamyan, who stated:

“The purpose of amending the Constitution is twofold. Firstly, to fulfill the latest demands of Turkey and Azerbaijan. The changes will not only pertain to the issues of Artsakh and the Armenian Genocide (these will be completely removed), but also create opportunities for fulfilling subsequent Turkish demands, potentially leading to the loss of Armenia's independence. Secondly, to extend one’s own power, albeit briefly, at the expense of constitutional amendments.

There is absolutely no connection between the current issues facing Armenia and the amendment of the Constitution. This is solely a Turkish-Azerbaijani demand. Any discussion in a different tone regarding this topic is intended to mislead us and lead to further losses.

Is it not symbolic? Aliyev is yet again in occupied Stepanakert today, delivering anti-Armenian speeches all day long. Simultaneously, the de-facto Prime Minister of Armenia, who is executing Aliyev’s will, unexpectedly announces changes to the Constitution, which Azerbaijan and Turkey are demanding almost daily.”

It is worth noting that Pashinyan announced the necessity for adopting a new Constitution today.
