This issue can and must be resolved through diplomatic means. Peskov
Russia is convinced that the issue of Iran's nuclear program can and should be resolved through diplomatic means, provided that there is political will from all parties involved. This was stated by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of Russia, in an interview with the Iranian IRNA agency.
According to him, Russia views Iran as an important partner and intends to comprehensively develop bilateral relations. Moscow is also ready to assist Tehran in resolving issues related to its nuclear program.
“We consider good relations and partnership with Iran as important and are ready to support the resolution of key issues, such as Iran’s nuclear program,” Peskov noted.
The Iranian nuclear program remains one of the key issues in international politics. Tehran insists that its developments are purely peaceful in nature, but Western countries, including the United States and Israel, doubt that it aims to create nuclear weapons.
In 2015, the United Kingdom, Germany, China, Russia, the USA, France, and Iran signed a nuclear deal (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action regarding Iran's nuclear program), which provided for the lifting of sanctions in exchange for limiting Iran's nuclear program. During Donald Trump's presidency, the USA withdrew from the deal in May 2018 and reinstated sanctions against Tehran. In response, Iran announced a phased reduction of its commitments under the agreement, including the abandonment of restrictions on nuclear research and uranium enrichment levels.
Efforts by the Biden administration to restore the deal have failed due to the absence of guarantees and Iran's demands for a complete lifting of sanctions. Russia supports the diplomatic resolution of the issue and continues its cooperation with Iran in the atomic sector, including the construction of the Bushehr nuclear power plant. At the same time, Tehran is expanding the volumes of enriched uranium, which raises concerns for the IAEA and Western countries. Negotiations to resolve the situation are ongoing.
