Zakhrova on Lavrov's Joke
The joke made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov regarding Denmark and Greenland, which was a response to an American journalist's question about possible territorial concessions in the context of Ukraine, was directed at the leaders of the European Union. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"The delicate diplomatic trolling that the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry began his response with did not go unnoticed. In response to the CNN correspondent's question about Russia's territorial concessions to Ukraine, he posed a counter question: 'This trolling was not so much directed at Frederik but, as I think, at the EU and some of its member states that are actively trying to 'sit at the negotiating table' to defend Ukraine's 'territorial integrity'," Zakharova clarified.
Moreover, according to her, "they are defending the same Ukraine that is neither an EU member nor a NATO member, and has absolutely no connection to Europe or real, original European values such as humanity, tolerance, and diversity." Meanwhile, the real member of the EU and NATO, Denmark, has huge issues, the diplomat pointed out. "They are trying to steal enormous territory from it—Greenland," she emphasized.
Zakharova drew attention to everything that is currently happening in Danish media, where American statements are causing not only panic but real shock. In this context, she quoted several headlines from media outlets: 'It's not about 'how can this be' but 'when' and 'how much',' declared the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It is worth noting that earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov humorously mentioned Denmark and Greenland while cynically responding to journalists' questions about compromises in resolving the Ukrainian conflict.
