Georgia's Largest Opposition TV Channel Suspends Broadcasting
Georgia's largest opposition TV channel, "Mtavari Arkhi," has suspended its broadcasting. The channel announced that the decision was made due to a financially engineered crisis created by one of its founders, Zaza Okuashvili.
In the channel's statement, it noted, "We are working to find resources to restore our broadcasts." Earlier, the director of "Mtavari Arkhi," Giorgi Gabunia, claimed that co-founder Zaza Okuashvili was blocking financial transactions through director Gogi Kurdadze and refusing to finalize important advertising contracts for the company, indicating his desire to shut down the media outlet.
It is worth mentioning that the opposition channel "Mtavari Arkhi" was founded in 2019 by the former ally of Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, Nika Gvaramia, who is currently the leader of the opposition "Akhali" party. In 2024, Gvaramia resigned from the position of general director of the channel to pursue a political career.
