Abkhazia's Armenian Community Appeals to Armenian Government for Protection

The Armenian community in Abkhazia has addressed the Armenian government through the Representative for Diaspora Affairs, Zareh Sinanyan, demanding additional measures for the protection of the Armenian population. This information has circulated on social media within the Armenian domain and has not yet been confirmed, reports Arminfo.

Nevertheless, the Armenians of Abkhazia believe that the local political opposition has close ties to Turkish nationalists and Turkish intelligence services. As a result, under growing pressures, the opposition perceives local Armenians as an obstacle to seizing power with Turkish support and is compiling "blacklists" to prepare provocations against them.

The authors of the appeal also express concern about potential massacres and violence against the Armenian community. According to media reports, the main initiators of the persecution of Armenians are Levan Mikaan, the chairman of the Committee for the Protection of Abkhazia's Sovereignty, and Adgur Ardzinba, the president of the Abkhaz People's Movement and a presidential candidate in the republic.
