Russia Responds to Alen Simonyan's Statement

The press secretary of the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov, has stated that Russia remains ready to support negotiations between Yerevan and Baku, but the countries are capable of conducting the discussions independently. This was reported by RIA Novosti, recalling that today the Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, stated that Armenia is unlikely to accept Russia's mediation in talks with Azerbaijan.

“From Yerevan, we have heard statements at various levels indicating that there is no need for mediators. Yerevan and Baku are capable of continuing these negotiations on their own until the process is completed. While we remain ready to provide any possible assistance, we welcome independent efforts. The main thing is for the region—South Caucasus—to remain predictable, peaceful, and turn into a space for prosperity and cooperation,” he told reporters, commenting on Simonyan’s statements.

Recall that in a press briefing, Simonyan mentioned that he considers it unlikely to accept Moscow's offers for mediation. “I consider it unlikely, but we discuss every offer if it is specific and we are ready to discuss it. However, past experiences have left very bad impressions, and ultimately, we do not have answers to many questions,” the Speaker said, referring to official Moscow's suggestions that they could mediate the signing of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
