Aliyev Signs Agreement on North-South Transport Corridor
The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, has approved an agreement on the North-South transport corridor between Azerbaijan and Russia, as reported by the presidential press service on Tuesday.
“The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, has signed a decree on the confirmation of the agreement regarding cooperation between the government of Azerbaijan and the government of the Russian Federation for the development of transit cargo transportation through the North-South international transport corridor,” the statement said.
The purpose of this agreement, which outlines the conditions for cooperation in the field of railway infrastructure and transit transportation development, is to enhance the efficiency of transport links and to increase the potential of the western route of the North-South corridor.
The agreement is expected to promote an increase in railway cargo transportation volumes and ensure a balance between the growth rates of traffic volumes and the development of railway transport infrastructure.
