The Phony Court Hearing on Ruben Vardanyan's Case Will Continue in Baku
Today, another phony court hearing on Ruben Vardanyan's case will take place in Baku. This information is reported by Azerbaijani media.
The Baku Military Court last held a hearing in Vardanyan's case on February 7. Vardanyan's case is being examined separately.
“We have received some alternative information regarding the hearing on Ruben Vardanyan's case, which the family obtained through his lawyer, Abraham Bermani. During the hearing, the defense presented two objections, one concerning the translator. Aside from the fact that the phony case contains 422 volumes in Azerbaijani, it has been revealed that the translator assigned to him, who was supposed to provide at least an oral translation of the materials (since they are not even allowed to make written translations or notes), did not provide a proper oral translation and made serious mistakes. In some instances, references were made not to Azerbaijani laws but to Belarusian legislation. According to the information I received, the court ordered that Ruben Vardanyan and his lawyer be provided with adequate translation. And this only during the third hearing, when the substantive examination of the case began. Moreover, all requests from the defense to obtain copies of the case files and to review the content of the video recordings were denied. Naturally, Azerbaijani media does not report on this,” stated lawyer Siranush Sahakyan, who advocates for the rights of Armenian prisoners in European Court of Human Rights.
