Trump May Start with Ruben Vardanyan: WP

Amidst so much suffering in the world, individual cases can get lost. But I want to tell you about a man named Ruben Vardanyan, who is a political prisoner in Azerbaijan and faces the threat of life imprisonment. This has been reported by The Washington Post columnist David Ignatius, who pointed out that Vardanyan's case deserves greater attention.

“Vardanyan's crime, if one can call it that, is that he supported Armenian resistance in Nagorno-Karabakh, a remote region in the Caucasus,” Ignatius writes. The columnist notes that Nagorno-Karabakh, which is now part of Azerbaijan, once had autonomy and was predominantly inhabited by Armenians. At the same time, Ignatius reminded that around 120,000 Armenians fled the region following the armed incursion of Azerbaijani forces in September 2023.

“Donald Trump has promised to protect Christian Armenians. He might start with Ruben Vardanyan,” observes Ignatius.
