Trump Sanctions Prosecutor Who Issued Arrest Warrant for Putin: Reuters

U.S. President Donald Trump has imposed sanctions on International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Karim Khan, according to Reuters citing sources familiar with the situation.

“Karim Khan, the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, has become the first individual to be subjected to economic and travel-related sanctions by U.S. President Donald Trump,” the publication states.

The complete list of individuals affected by these restrictions has not yet been disclosed. According to the report, the sanctions include freezing assets in the U.S. and a ban on entering the country. These measures were implemented as part of actions against the initiation of investigations into U.S. citizens or their allies.

Previously, Trump signed an executive order imposing sanctions against the ICC for taking actions against Washington and its allies, including Israel. The order states that the United States will apply significant measures against those responsible for “violations” by the ICC.

The ICC, in turn, condemned the United States' decision, stating that it will continue to ensure justice worldwide. The ICC’s Pre-Trial Chamber, which Russia does not recognize, issued an arrest warrant for Putin and children’s commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova.

The ICC accuses the Russian side of, among other things, “forcibly transferring” children from Ukraine amidst military operations, where Russian authorities have evacuated them from combat zones to safe areas.
