Details Regarding Incident on Bus Number 31

A conflict arose between the bus driver and one of the passengers regarding fare payment. During this altercation, another passenger reportedly smashed one of the bus's windows with a small hammer, according to preliminary information provided by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Narek Sargsyan.

Today, the spokesperson for the mayor, Haik Kostanyan, stated that during the incident which occurred on bus number 31 in Yerevan, a passenger, during a discussion about payment, broke one of the side windows of the bus. According to the spokesperson, the incident took place around 21:05 in the Kanakerr-Zeitun administrative district. He added that the individual has been arrested on suspicion of willfully damaging property and has been taken to the police station.

On March 12, 2024, the Yerevan Council approved a project to implement a unified fare system, which was set to come into effect on January 1, 2025, and included an increase in transportation costs. On December 20, 2024, the municipality postponed the implementation of the system to February 1.

On January 19, Mayor Marutyan and Andranik Tevanyan, leader of the 'Mother Armenia' alliance, called on the residents of Yerevan to boycott the authorities' plans to raise public transportation fares starting February 1 and initiated a petition against the fare increase. Marutyan's team announced that they had gathered 76,000 signatures and urged citizens to pay 100 drams as a sign of protest when using public transport starting February 1.
