We Must Not Withdraw Legal Claims Against Azerbaijan: Marukyan

Edmon Marukyan, the president of the Bright Armenia party, writes:

“By renouncing legal claims filed in international forums, we are once again depleting our negotiation fund, even if Azerbaijan also withdraws its claims. This does not guarantee in any way that Azerbaijan, under present or future authorities, will not present new claims and demands against the Republic of Armenia.

Therefore, under no circumstances should we withdraw legal claims filed against Azerbaijan. Otherwise:

• The preventive significance of protecting human rights and the mass violations related to the Artsakh movement will be undermined.
• Azerbaijan’s false thesis regarding Armenia’s aggressive policies will be legitimized.
• We will burden future generations with all the negative consequences that follow from this.
• Together with Azerbaijan, Armenia will become a state that tramples on the rights of 150,000 people, the people of Artsakh.”
