The U.S. Will Be the Owner of That Piece of Land, Trump
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will "take" Gaza, possibly with the help of American troops, while the Palestinians living there must leave. CNN reports that the U.S. President's announcement could signal the further displacement of over one million residents.
"The U.S. will take Gaza, and we will work with it," Trump stated during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
"It will be ours, and we will be responsible for clearing all the unexploded bombs and other weaponry in the area, clearing the land, and removing the damaged buildings... We are going to develop it," the U.S. President added.
When asked if he is prepared to send American troops to fill the security vacuum in Gaza, Trump did not rule it out. "As far as Gaza goes, we will do what is necessary. If needed, we will do it," he said.
According to the U.S. President, this could create stability in the Middle East. He noted that Gaza could become the "Riviera of the Middle East," where "people from around the world" can live.
"This was not an easy decision. Everyone I have spoken to likes the idea of the United States being the owner of that piece of land; the idea of creating thousands of jobs would be fantastic," he added.
Trump suggested that Palestinians may not be the majority in a future Gaza. "I don’t think people should return to Gaza... Gaza has been a very unfortunate place for them. They live in hell... Gaza is not a place for people to live, and the only reason they want to go back—and I believe this deeply—is that they have no alternative," the U.S. President stated.
As noted by the source, Netanyahu listened with a smile on his face. He described Trump as "the biggest friend Israel has ever had in the White House." The Israeli leader said, "We need to finish the job in Gaza," and that "Israel will end the war victoriously." Netanyahu praised Trump for "thinking outside the box with new ideas."
