Elon Musk Given New Government Position
American billionaire Elon Musk is now officially working as a special advisor to the Trump administration, as reported by CNN, citing a White House representative.
According to reporters, this means that Musk is neither a volunteer nor a career civil servant. A special government employee is defined as "anyone who works or is required to work for the government for 130 days or less in a calendar year." Musk does not receive a salary, a source familiar with his work told CNN.
Musk also holds a highly confidential security clearance, said the anonymous official. Reporters assert that as a special government employee, Musk falls under U.S. conflict of interest laws, which prohibit public officials from participating in matters that may affect their financial interests.
It is noteworthy that Musk has invested over $250 million in Trump’s campaign. The businessman has participated in calls between Trump and foreign leaders and, according to media reports, has influenced the formation of the new administration.
Sources indicate that there is growing discontent within Trump’s team regarding Musk's excessive involvement in the process. Previously, Trump assured that Elon Musk cannot and will not do anything without the administration's approval.
