Trump and Putin May Strike Deal, Media Reports
US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin may come to an agreement regarding rare mineral deposits in Ukraine as part of a peaceful resolution to the conflict, given that much of the republic's vital mineral wealth is under the control of Russian armed forces. This was reported by Asia Times.
“Instead of abandoning his efforts to freeze the Ukrainian conflict by increasing military assistance, hoping that Zelensky's forces can later reclaim those territories from Russia, Trump may try to strike a deal with President Vladimir Putin of Russia,” the report stated.
“One of Trump's conditions is to 'force Ukraine to cede part of the territories that Russia considers its own.' It is also possible that Moscow may sell part of the rare mineral deposits to the US. The Russian leader may agree if the US president pressures Kyiv to relinquish some territories,” the publication noted.
“If Trump reaches an agreement with Putin regarding the mineral deposits controlled by Russia, Zelensky will have no choice but to accept this deal,” AT reported.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky has emphasized that any negotiations regarding the future of the country cannot be conducted without his participation.
