1 Passenger Trip Costs 150 Drams: Details from the Decision
The Yerevan City Council has approved a decision with 33 votes in favor, establishing a fare of 150 drams for a single trip, alongside the introduction of package deals for a unified ticketing system.
From January 1 to February 28, tickets purchased during this period will receive an additional 30-day usage period from the moment of activation. According to the plan, a new ticket will be implemented starting February 1, 2025, which will cost 150 drams and will remain valid until January 1, 2026. Additionally, for tickets bought between January 1 and February 28, 2025, citizens will also receive an extra 30-day period for the 30-day, 90-day, and 365-day tickets.
This means that packages purchased by February 28 but activated later will be usable for 60 days. Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan stated that by purchasing packages, it will be more affordable for citizens to use public transportation. "Each citizen should calculate their cost per trip based on the number of trips they make and determine their value per single journey. With this decision, if a person is making a solo trip, a fee of 150 drams is set. We do not encourage frequent travelers to opt for that 150 dram fare," said Grigoryan.
Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan added that current expenses for Yerevan bus services amount to approximately 1 billion 780 million drams. He noted that while there might be fluctuations in the calculations, that figure represents the current monthly expenses with new vehicles.
Armen Galjyan, head of the My Step faction, mentioned that their decision has faced criticism, but those measures are necessary even if they come at the expense of their approval ratings.
