Counterfeit Hundreds Cashed at Currency Exchange Point
The Criminal Police Department of Shirak Province received operational information on January 28 that two young residents of Gyumri, aged 21 and 24, were involved in the distribution of counterfeit banknotes. According to the information, they cashed a counterfeit $100 bill at a currency exchange point in one of the supermarkets on Khorenatsi Street in Gyumri on January 22.
Both individuals were arrested and taken to the Criminal Police Department of Shirak Province. During the investigative work, they confessed to the crime. A criminal case has been initiated.
Subsequent measures revealed that on January 15, the 24-year-old young man had provided a counterfeit $100 bill to an employee at the same currency exchange point, receiving 39,500 drams in return. On January 18, he cashed three counterfeit banknotes valued at $100 at the same point, receiving 50 dollars and 98,750 drams.
An investigation is underway.
