The Panama Canal is under the control of China, but Washington will not allow this. This was stated by U.S. President Trump while addressing the majority Republican Party in the House of Representatives.

"This has become an urgent issue because China has effectively taken it. And we will not allow that to happen. We will not give it to China," Trump noted. Earlier, he had said that Washington should regain control over the Panama Canal.
