Mysterious Drones Sighted Again in the Northeastern US

Mysterious drones have been spotted in the Northeastern United States following the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) lifting temporary flight restrictions. According to NBC News, mass sightings of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in New York, New Jersey, and neighboring states in November and December 2024 led to temporary airport closures, arrests, and calls for tighter airspace control.

After the FAA imposed temporary restrictions on drone flights in December, activity significantly decreased. However, since January 19, when restrictions were partially lifted, reports of drones have surged again, particularly in states like Connecticut, New Jersey, and Delaware.

According to research firm Enigma Labs, there have been 650 recorded drone-related incidents nationwide since November, with most occurrences in the Northeast. In January alone, the region saw 49 new cases, 14 of which occurred after the lifting of the ban.
