We are in Active Dialogue with Turkey, Says Mirzoyan

We are in active dialogue with Turkey, the borders with which have been closed for more than 30 years. We have common ideas that open borders and cooperation can benefit Armenia, Turkey, and other countries in the region. This was stated by Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during a panel discussion in Yerevan on the theme 'Together for Peace and Democracy', attended by the heads of parliaments of Baltic and Northern European countries.

“There is active, intense, results-based dialogue ongoing, but unfortunately, as of now, there are no serious, tangible results on the ground,” he noted.

Mirzoyan also announced that Armenia is interested in expanding ties with the Baltic and Northern European countries. “The reasons are quite simple: these are the countries where democratic values are strongest, where human rights are well protected, and where the risks faced by global democracy are understood. Moreover, cooperation with these countries is the best example of regional partnership.

Our society has proven its commitment to democracy more than once. When Armenia was striving to defend democracy, it was democracy that protected our country. In 2021, following the 2020 war, considering the internal political crisis, external influence, and also after the attempt of a military coup, the Armenian authorities decided to hold elections, thus employing the fundamental tool of democracy. The authorities presented the people with an agenda of peace and democracy, and the people chose this agenda,” concluded Mirzoyan.
