Mirzoyan Addresses British Government Statement
“The decision by the British government does not tighten the conditions for visits to Armenia. In fact, there is a softening regarding the recommendations made about Armenia, and serious concerns about the potential risk of terrorism have been removed from the section pertaining to Armenia,” said Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during a government Q&A session.
MP Arthur Khachatryan reminded that just 24 hours after a joint statement made by Armenia and Azerbaijan regarding border demarcation and delimitation, the British government advised its citizens to avoid traveling along certain border areas of Armenia.
Addressing Khachatryan, Mirzoyan noted, “The regulation of the British government that you reference has, at this stage, shown a softening of its position towards Armenia.”
Responding to a question about why the process of delimitation and demarcation between Armenia and Azerbaijan is continuing from north to south, Mirzoyan replied: “We have territories under occupation, for which we need to present our documents, justifications, and maps during the delimitation process. We are interested in continuing the delimitation process, as we consider it one of the pillars of the peace process. There have been constructive efforts from both our side and Azerbaijan’s, and we have come to a common understanding.”
It is worth noting that earlier reports indicated that Britain advises against approaching the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
