The Anthem is Not a Matter of Taste: Khachatryan

Today, during the announcements session of the National Assembly of Armenia, MP Artur Khachatryan from the "Armenia" faction addressed the issue of changing the national anthem of the Republic of Armenia.

"The anthem is regulated by law; it is not a matter of taste. State symbolism cannot be based on taste," he stated.

It should be noted that today's session commenced with a performance of the national anthem by a choir, which sang a newly revised version of the anthem. Remember, one of the proponents of the change is the Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan.

"The last part of the same text should be changed; it should not end with 'let us all die.' The anthem should give hope. I believe that at some point we need to think about a completely different, Armenian version of the anthem that connects more deeply with the country and the Armenian people," Simonyan had said.
