Turkey Does Not Rule Out Military Operation in Syria

Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has not ruled out the possibility of conducting a military operation against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) formations in Syria. According to him, Ankara has issued an ultimatum regarding this issue, Kommersant reports.

“If you do not want the option of a military operation, then foreign terrorists must leave Syria, their leaders must leave the country, and the remaining members of the organization must lay down their arms and work with the new Syrian administration. Damascus is negotiating with them. They will say it once, and they will say it again. But if there are no results, a military operation will be a lawful option,” Fidan said in an interview with CNN Trk.

In December, Hakan Fidan stated that Turkey would not carry out military operations in Syria if the country’s new authorities establish complete control over the territory. According to him, Ankara would have no reason to maintain its military presence in Syria to eliminate migration and terrorist threats.
