TikTok Fined $10 Million in Venezuela
The Supreme Court of Venezuela has imposed a $10 million fine on the social media platform TikTok for spreading content harmful to mental and physical health. This was announced by Tanya D'Amelio, the Vice President of the Supreme Court of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, during a broadcast on Venezolana de Televisión.
The Supreme Court stated, "TikTok is notified of a $10 million fine, which must be paid to the National Communications Commission of Venezuela within eight days after the publication of this decision. The platform is also required to take necessary measures to prevent the spread of viral content that is detrimental to mental and physical health," said D'Amelio.
She added that a fund for victims will be created, worth $10 million, to compensate for the damage caused by what are referred to as viral challenges, which primarily affect the mental and physical health of children and adolescents. The Supreme Court has also mandated that TikTok establish a representative office in Venezuela to oversee compliance with the country's legal regulations.
