A National Day of Mourning Declared in the U.S. for Carter's Death

U.S. President Joe Biden has declared January 9, 2025, a national day of mourning in connection with the death of former President Jimmy Carter, according to the New York Times.

He also decided to lower all flags in the U.S. for 30 days at government buildings both domestically and abroad, including military bases and diplomatic missions.

A 36-hour farewell ceremony is set to be organized in Atlanta, Georgia, at the center founded by Carter, after which the former president's body will be flown to Washington for the traditional presidential farewell ceremony, which will be broadcast on television.

According to the publication, Carter's body will be displayed in the Capitol for one and a half days, after which a memorial service will take place at the Washington Cathedral. He will then be flown back to Georgia, where his remains will be buried in the family plot in Plains.
