The Ministry of Internal Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, has implemented changes to traffic organization starting from December 19 near the stationary checkpoint of the patrol service on the M4 interstate highway (Yerevan-Sevan). In this area, u-turns have been closed, and instead, drivers can use the Ptghnuni transport hub.

According to Hrant Avetisyan, the senior inspector of the Administrative Activities and Complaint Review Department, and deputy police chief, “Previously, if a driver wanted to make a u-turn in the specified area, it would take at least 15-20 minutes, whereas now this maneuver takes only 1.5-2 minutes.”

The aim of the new u-turn direction offered to drivers is to ensure more comfortable traffic organization in the area and to prevent road accidents. This will also help avoid congestion on the road.

Before implementing the changes, special attention was paid to the comfort and safety of pedestrians during studies. For this purpose, pedestrian signal lights have already been installed and maintained. Just this year, 15 accidents occurred during u-turns in the designated section of the M4 interstate highway, including those with bodily injuries.

This year, in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Yerevan Municipality, several changes have also been made to traffic organization in the capital.

In particular, traffic lights have been installed at the intersections of Nalbandyan-Isahakyan and Abovyan-Isahakyan streets. One-way traffic has been implemented on Moscow Street from the intersection of Moscow-Mashtots Avenue to the intersection of Moscow-Nalbandyan streets, as well as on Avetik Isahakyan Street from Nalbandyan Street to Baghramyan Avenue.

Changes have also been made at the intersection of Grigor Lusavorich-Agatangeghos streets-Arshakunyats Avenue. To increase vehicle throughput, a u-turn has been prohibited from Agatangeghos Street, and another lane has been added to the right. In the same intersection, an additional lane has been added from Grigor Lusavorich Street towards Agatangeghos Street, while traffic to Arshakunyats Avenue is only allowed from the first lane.

The pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Argishti-Grigor Lusavorich streets has been relocated near the statue of Myasnikyan. Changes have also been made at the intersection of Victory Bridge-Athens Street-Isakov Avenue, where an additional lane has been allocated towards Athens Street from the side of Victory Bridge, while the other two lanes go towards Isakov Avenue. Traffic lights have also been installed at the intersections of Bagrevandi-Nelson Stepanyan, Bagrevandi-Tevosyan, Garegin Hovsepyan-Davit Bek, and Yeghvard-Mantashyan.

A previously unregulated pedestrian crossing on Arno Babajanyan Street has been replaced with a pedestrian signal light system. Thus, the changes implemented for the benefit of drivers and pedestrians guarantee a more organized and safe environment, ensuring comfortable and safe traffic for all.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs continuously monitors traffic in the capital and regions, undertaking necessary measures to ensure traffic order and prevent road accidents.
