New Details on the Case Involving Hovik Aghazaryan

The Anti-Corruption Committee has rejected the request of the lawyer of former ruling party MP Hovik Aghazaryan to initiate a criminal proceeding regarding the illegal breach of confidentiality of correspondence, phone conversations, and other forms of communication. This was reported by “Azatutyun”.

According to the investigator of the Anti-Corruption Committee, the decision states that no criminal proceedings were initiated based on the lawyer's report because “no incident, action, or inaction that can reasonably be given a preliminary legal assessment corresponding to any act defined by the Criminal Code has been proven.”

The legality of not initiating criminal proceedings was confirmed by the supervising prosecutor.

Hovik Aghazaryan's lawyer, Hakob Jaroian, described this decision by the investigator as absurd and is preparing to appeal it. “It is obvious that a violation exists; the conversations in the phone were found with another person - the Prime Minister, the NSS, and MPs from the ruling party. This is a gross violation of the law, especially as it constitutes a breach of pre-investigation confidentiality. The entire republic is talking about these violations, how can there be no basis?” said the lawyer.

Lawyer Hakob Jaroian had approached the Chief Prosecutor ten days ago, demanding the initiation of criminal proceedings for the public exposure of Aghazaryan's personal information. Hovik Aghazaryan's phone was confiscated by the investigative committee in connection with a case involving former Head of the Investigative Committee Arghishti Kyaramyan, after which the contents of his phone reached the Anti-Corruption Committee and then the Prime Minister and ruling party members.
