VIDEO: Citizens Penalized for Traffic Faux Pas in Downtown Yerevan
Auroranews has received reports from drivers that they continue to face penalties related to traffic violations in downtown Yerevan. Specifically, at the intersection of Mashtots Avenue and Isahakyan Street, the traffic sign indicates only right turns, while the lane markings indicate both straight and right directions.
One of the citizens who reported to Auroranews mentioned that this situation is a trap, and he has been fined. It is worth noting that the municipality had previously informed that to improve traffic flow in the capital, changes to traffic organization would take place at this intersection starting December 8. In particular, the first traffic lane from Mashtots Avenue to Isahakyan Street will allow movement only in the right direction instead of the previous options of 'straight' and 'right.'
Additionally, a right turn lane will be established at the intersection, which will always be open for vehicles making right turns. The affected sections will be properly marked, and relevant traffic signs will be installed.
However, ten days have passed since the announcement, and the current situation contradicts this plan, with the lane markings and the hanging sign not aligning. Authorities, we have been provided with a video taken today.
Auroranews contacted the Transport Department of Yerevan Municipality, where they confirmed that the lane markings would be corrected today. The contractor was unable to mark the lanes due to weather conditions. Furthermore, the fines issued are subject to revocation; citizens can submit an application to the traffic police.
