Strict Regulation: Measures to be Taken Regarding Air Pollution
Yerevan's Mayor Tigran Avinyan discussed the issue of air pollution during an operational meeting. "The information from the 149 air quality measuring devices installed is available on the city hall's website. During the winter months, this information can sometimes be alarming," Avinyan stated.
It was reported that due to adverse meteorological conditions, pollution indicators exceed acceptable limits every winter. It was also noted that the city hall is closely monitoring construction sites through strict regulation, and no significant increase in extraordinary emissions has been recorded during this time.
Avinyan emphasized that the Yerevan city hall has work to do regarding anthropogenic air pollution. "I propose that we develop a four-year program outlining the measures the Yerevan city hall should take to improve air quality," said the Mayor and instructed that the four-year program be presented in two months.
According to him, the four-year program should include the simplest methods. "For instance, tree planting and afforestation, with clear numerical indicators, as well as certain restrictions, for example, the operation of outdated vehicles in Yerevan that emit two kilometers of smoke behind them and are major polluters," Avinyan noted.
