Significant Violations in the Meat Market: details from the State Service for Food Safety

Within the framework of periodic monitoring activities conducted by the National Food Safety Inspectorate of Armenia, inspections were carried out today in the meat sales market located on Khorenatsi Street. This was reported by the State Service for Food Safety.

"As a result, several significant violations were identified. Meat sales points have ceased operations and been closed, while suppliers were unable to provide proof of the slaughterhouse origin of their meat. According to the law, meat not of slaughterhouse origin is subject to confiscation and destruction. Today, about one ton of meat was seized and destroyed. It is important to note that the Inspectorate has continuously conducted awareness-raising activities on platforms regarding the confiscation and destruction of meat not of slaughterhouse origin. The meat sales points, including those on Khorenatsi Street, have been warned that these activities will be permanent, urging them to operate within the legal procedures," the statement reads.

Furthermore, a similar monitoring measure was recently conducted at the meat sales points on Khorenatsi Street during September-October, during which non-slaughterhouse meat was also seized, again notifying the operators about the existing regulations. The actions of the Inspectorate are, of course, aimed solely at ensuring public health and preventing unverified, unknown origin, and hazardous food from reaching people's tables," the statement added.
