Baby Girl Named Hovhannes, Gender Listed Incorrectly as Male
The 'Armenia' medical center has clarified how a baby girl was given a male name. On December 2 of this year, at 07:00, L.A., born in 2004, arrived at the maternity ward of the Armavir Medical Center. The healthcare provider diagnosed her with premature labor with complications, prompting an urgent cesarean section to save both the mother and the newborn's lives.
Due to the premature nature of the birth, the newborn was born underweight, at 2.1 kg and a height of 45 cm. The parents, along with the neonatologist, obstetrician, and gynecologist, were informed that the infant was a girl, and the mother was shown her baby. The newborn's gender is also reflected in all documents, including the medical records.
The relatives of the mother were updated on her condition, the newborn's weight, height, and prematurity. They were also informed that the newborn needed to be transferred to a clinic in Yerevan, and a neonatal ambulance was summoned from Yerevan for this purpose.
The following day, December 3, the newborn's grandmother approached the operator, stating that they wished to name the baby Hovhannes, and wrote the newborn's name and surname in the registry in her own handwriting. However, the operator carelessly, without verifying the baby's gender, marked it as male in the system, seeing the name. Taking into account the error made, our team will try to rectify it as quickly as possible,” reads the clarification.
