This morning, December 8, armed militants have entered Damascus. According to Al Jazeera, government forces have abandoned the city center.
The militants have seized the Sednaya prison and released inmates from there. Syrian Prime Minister Mohamed Ghazi al-Jalal has expressed readiness to cooperate with any leadership elected by the people.
The head of the Syrian government also announced willingness to transfer power peacefully within the country. President Assad is reported to have left Damascus, according to Reuters.
Damascus International Airport has suspended incoming and outgoing flights. The militants have reportedly taken control of Damascus, as stated by Al Hadath TV channel.
