Proposed to Deny Benefits to Families Whose Children Do Not Attend School
The National Center for Educational Technologies (NCET) has presented a draft to the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of Armenia, proposing to deny benefits to families who refuse to send their children to school. The proposal has been approved.
During a meeting with journalists, NCET director Artak Poghosyan stated that this is a method used in international practice. “For instance, when you are a beneficiary family, and the state provides you with money to ensure the basic rights of your family members, education is a fundamental right. In other words, the state provides this money also so that the family can cover the needs of sending their child to school, thereby addressing the child’s social issues. However, if the family continues to neglect this responsibility and the child does not attend school and is not engaged in education, the state suspends the benefits. As soon as the child starts attending school regularly for several months, then the state will restore the family’s benefits,” noted Poghosyan.
