I Apologize for My Actions: South Korean President
South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol apologized to the citizens of the country during a live television broadcast for his decision to impose a state of emergency, TASS reports.
"I apologize for my actions. I do not intend to evade political and legal responsibility for declaring a state of emergency," he stated in his live television address.
The President expressed his regret for the anxiety and discomfort caused to the citizens.
It is worth noting that Yoon Suk-yeol declared a state of emergency on the evening of December 3, addressing the nation with a surprise television broadcast and accusing the opposition of attempting to paralyze the government through "anti-government" actions.
Following the declaration of a state of emergency, military personnel entered the parliamentary complex and clashed with a large group of people who tried to block their path. At the same time, another larger group clashed with police and security personnel.
Early on December 4, the President revoked the state of emergency after a vote in the National Assembly, where lawmakers unanimously demanded its cancellation.
