What gift did Nikol Pashinyan receive from the Pope?

In November, the trips of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan were filled with gifts. According to the "Gift Registration Form for Public Officials" submitted to the Anti-Corruption Committee, Nikol Pashinyan traveled to the Vatican on November 18 on a working visit, during which he received a gift from His Holiness Pope Francis: a clay sculpture titled "Tenderness and Love."

The technique used for the sculpture gives the clay a smooth, leather-like appearance, which is then set with a wax coating. On one side, the sculpture depicts Pope Francis of Assisi, a symbol of peace and respect for humanity and nature, while on the other side, it reflects an image of pollution and a world in danger. The estimated value of the gift received by the Prime Minister has been assessed at 37,978 Armenian drams.

This information was reported by the newspaper "Haykakan Zhamanak." It should be noted that if the value of the gift as per points 1 or 4 exceeds 60,000 drams (excluding customary hospitality), it is considered state or community property. Public officials are obligated to hand it over to the state or community in accordance with the established procedure. Additionally, public officials must record the permissible gifts they receive in the gift registration register. Permissible gifts not exceeding 40,000 drams are exempt from registration, except in cases where gifts are received periodically (5 or more) from the same source within six months. The value of the gifts is assessed based on reasonable market value, which can be determined through public sources.
