Proposal for Impeachment of South Korea's President Officially Submitted
The proposal to impeach Republic of Korea President Yoon Suk Yeol has been officially submitted during a full session of the country's parliament, according to Reuters.
In accordance with national legislative norms, the vote on the president's impeachment must take place within 24 to 72 hours from the time the proposal is officially presented. This means that the impeachment vote is set to occur on December 6 or 7.
The initiative for impeachment is backed by six opposition parties. Support from at least 200 of the 300 members of the National Assembly is required for the proposal to advance, while the ruling party, 'People Power', controls 108 mandates. Additionally, it has been reported that some of its members are in favor of voting for the repeal of emergency measures.
