Joe Biden Grants Pardon to His Son
U.S. President Joe Biden has announced his decision to grant a pardon to his son, Hunter. The announcement was made public by the White House press office.
The pardon will apply to both the potential sentencing of Hunter Biden as well as any possible acceptance of guilt on his part. Previously, the American head of state had repeatedly ruled out such an option.
The pardon is granted in cases related to firearms violations and tax evasion. A verdict for the first case was expected on December 12, while for the second case, on December 16.
Joe Biden stated that he has kept his promise not to interfere with the workings of the U.S. Department of Justice in this instance and expressed hope that Americans would "understand why a father and a president has taken such a step."
According to the White House leader, the charges against his son have political motivations. He characterized them as attempts to "break him," thus giving him no reason to believe that the attacks on Hunter Biden would cease.
Joe Biden added that the decision to pardon his son was made after long deliberation and was motivated not only by family ties but also by his belief in the injustice of the proceedings. "I believe in justice, but I think politics has infiltrated this process, leading to a miscarriage of justice," said the U.S. President.
