Armenia Expresses Willingness to Cooperate with ICC

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia has issued a statement, which we present below.

On December 2, during a working visit to The Hague, RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with ICC President Tomoko Akane. The meeting was also attended by RA Representative on International Legal Matters Yeghishe Kirakosyan, the Court's First Vice President Rosario Salvatore Aitalan, and Secretary General Osvaldo Javala Giler.

The participants exchanged views on issues of cooperation between the ICC and Armenia since the country’s membership in the International Criminal Court in February of this year. Minister Mirzoyan emphasized Armenia's commitment to engage in international cooperation efforts aimed at upholding international legal norms and ensuring the rule of law.

They discussed the challenges facing the international justice system, highlighting the importance of strengthening the role of independent judicial mechanisms in responding appropriately to global crises and contributing to peace. The significance of collaborative efforts in overcoming challenges was emphasized.

The meeting also addressed the work being done to improve national legislation in accordance with the provisions of the Rome Statute, aimed at regulating the procedural aspects of cooperation with the Court.
