Acquiring Citizenship Does Not Affect the Right to Return to Artsakh, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs
Mariam Z.
The acquisition of Armenian citizenship does not contradict the right to return to Artsakh. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Armen Ghazaryan, during discussions in the National Assembly regarding the topics related to the acquisition of Armenian citizenship by forcibly displaced individuals from Nagorno-Karabakh.
According to the Deputy Minister, it is clear that the decision to accept or not accept Armenian citizenship does not impact this issue. “I am inclined to believe that the acquisition of citizenship does not affect the right to return. The right to return, as a clear right, is not enshrined in many places within international legal frameworks,” he noted.
